f Block

Synthesis and Characterization

We are highly interested in both the lanthanide and actinide elements. A main focus for our group within the f-block is promethium. Promethium is the only exclusively radioactive lanthanide. Better understanding promethium chemistry will allow pure promethium to be obtained for applications in nuclear batteries and medical applications such as PET imaging and targeted beta therapies.

Medically Relevant Isotopes

Design and Implement a Novel Chelator

Radium-223 is the only FDA approved targeted alpha therapy. It is used for bone metastasized cancers and is injected freely as radium chloride. Our group is working toward designing a novel chelator to transport this highly effective radionuclide to other parts of the body to treat other forms of cancer.
